The White House Office of Creative Affairs (OCA) is not a branch or affiliate of the Federal Government. It is an idea in search of a reality. Conceived by Harry Webber, the Madison Avenue legend who brought the world “I’m Stuck On Band-Aid Brand,” “A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste,” “Quality Is Job 1,” “Thanks, I Needed That,” and dozens of other equally memorable advertising campaigns, it is his most ambitious idea. A Think Tank for America. The purpose of the OCA is to bring together the most creative minds in our Nation to address the most pressing problems in our Nation.
Certainly a full plate for any creative mind to contemplate, let alone address. But as a community of creative minds the power and the capacity to create the solutions required can be achieved. We invite your participation by sharing your ideas regarding the issues posted below on this site. We will forward them to John Podesta at the transition team to begin the work at hand.
As stated by the website Change.gov, the issues facing our Nation are as follows:
- Revitalizing the Economy
-
Ending the War in Iraq
-
Providing Health Care for All
-
Protecting America
-
Renewing American Global Leadership
In addition the Obama Administration has a comprehensive and detailed policy agenda. Among many important domestic and foreign policy objectives, priorities of the Obama Administration include: a plan to revive the economy; provide affordable, accessible health care to all; strengthen our public education and social security systems; define a clear path to energy independence and tackle climate change; end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan; work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
As a non-American both in my citizenship and where I live, I am looking at the developments around change.gov with a certain amount of envy as compared to the opportunities we have in UK. At least for the time being
Now, for specifics on your points above. It seems to me that the areas identified are not representative of the ‘new world’. For instance, big missings are:
- Social Business
- Volunteering
- Community affairs
- Communications
- Civil Service
Hope to see more ideas fleshed out in due course.

Oh, and if there is a line for ‘Women’ where are:
- Children and Youth
